Immerse: Team The Walk

Maria, a 20 year old college student, from Houston, has always been passionate about mental health awareness. She’s involved in mental health awareness efforts at her college but wants to get involved in local mental health initiatives in the broader Houston community. She struggles to find any substantial information about the Walk’s event on World Mental Health Day. She finds a website for it eventually that needs a good amount of work. She wants to participate but the lack of clear communication leaves Maria confused on how to get involved. Our main insights focused around the brand/lack of outreach from the organization, low community reach, and lack of certain demographics in participation. Through research on cultural stigmas and barriers, we gathered insights on the issue of bringing in certain demographics. Based on our user interviews and meetings with our community partner, Patrick, we have identified internal issues with the Walk along with outreach.
